there are people who make/made a living off of hustling the lotto by buying ridiculous amounts of tickets for local state lotteries. like they'd buy out every roll of scratch offs from every convenience store they could, spending stupid amounts of money, and they would be able to squeeze a profit out of it. it pays, but it's work.

No, not or, having an edge is exactly what I described as only picking certain lottos when certain conditions are met that give a small margin in favor of the players.

There was a woman in Canada who was able to predict the lotto. Apparently the time and effort necessary made it not worth it for her, since she actually made more at her job on a per hour basis.
