Do you respect holders of the Ed.D as "doctors"?
Anonymous at Sat, 30 Mar 2024 02:20:31 UTC No. 16104243
I consider EdD as teachers and MD as physicians
I only consider PhD as proper "doctors"

Can you elaborate? I don't see why someone holding an Ed.D, or another professional doctorate such as a DBA or DPH shouldn't be deserving of the title

He's trying to be pedantic since doctor in Latin literally means teacher, but failed miserably.

No, of course not. I have an estranged aunt who completed an Ed.D which is on deposit with a local university. Out of curiosity, I visited the reading room to access it. I wasn't expecting anything impressive, nor was it horrible, but was really just a dull essay which only ran to 80(!) pages. She spent paragraphs in the very short thing noting how she kept research locked in her private storage areas, and re-iterated very basic parameters for her subject in the first half in an undergrad sort of way. The prose didn't pop off the page, and there wasn't much explanatory power. Just a piece of work that she churned out in connection with her medical background.
I'm sure that the process had value for her since it would have required her to balance professional and research life (like any "doctoral" student), but it didn't come across on the page.

Professional degrees are professsional degrees, they're not worthy of any research or novel quality.
Consider a famouse PhD thesis from let say Paul Dirac, none, zero of the other type "doctoral" degrees can provide works that even close in terms of brainjuice, value or quality.

Generally no. Is that to say I don't respect Ed.D holders at all? Not at all. Not everybody has to produce completely novel research, and aiming for teaching is knowing your limits, which within itself is commendable enough.

Yeah, Ive heard at what would pass for PhD thesis in Theology/Religious Studies.
Ive does a hudred of those, its supposed to be proof of "coherent advancing of research" and thats it, not "you've/ll advance science".

Science is philosophy, nigger.
The youngling cunts like you think gathering data n shit aint philosophy but physics (that include other related fields like chemistry...) is very much a philosophical subject.
Many related are in mathematics like theoretical computer science or computations are basically purely philosophical once you think hard enough, which you obviously lack the IQ for.
Well, you can argue that life sciences arent philosophy but that's another subject.

you're experiencing what's called "cognitive dissonance". what you read from me makes sense, yet contradicts what you understand. you cannot hold both views in your head simultaneously, so revert to name-calling and other generic insults.
>X = science
>Y = philosophy
you claim all science contains philosophy, i.e. Y is contained in X. you then chastise me saying that X is not contained in Y (congratulations--that was the point of my question). if X is not contained in Y, there must be elements of X that are uniquely part of X.

Which properly doing both is "Professor", going back and forth, learning, teach what is learned, and again.
Michael Levin kind of balances that a bit, its a lot, and the more "you can keep up" the more it can be just him reviewing his works and youre approaching that moment of creation.
Or whatever.
