My fiancee got me a remarkable 2 a couple years back when all of my courses were moved online due to COVID.

I don't know if I would have bought one with my own money but it's actually pretty nice. The screen has a tiny spot where it's kind of scuffed up and doesn't write all that well, but the majority of it has held up alright.

The big problem with the remarkable is their pens are expensive, break super easily, and the tips are a pain (and also really expensive). If you don't mind that and you have to handwrite your notes (as opposed to writing them out in latex or some kind of markdown system like obsidian/notion/zettlr etc.) they aren't a terrible choice.

I write them with a keyboard in Microsoft Word equation editor. There is a shortcut for everything. Once you learn them, people look at you like a god

I'll wait for the next version before maybe buying it. Should come out soon, no? I've yet to buy any kind of tablet. Except drawing tablet.

The only thing stopping me from getting one is that it won’t be allowed at my work for security reasons (the only place I take a shit tonne of notes these days) - with written stuff you can shred it etc

Would have loved to have one of these in my uni days though

You can buy metal tips on Amazon and that solves the problem. They don't ruin the pad, plastic tips just exist to scam you.

The plastic tips wear down the screen over the course of multiple years. The metal ones will absolutely destroy that surface. It may not seem like it at first, but I guarantee you that if you're using it for more than a year you'll cause a ton of wear with a metal tip.

This saved me in medical physiology. We had a surprise test one day where you could use handwritten notes or printed notes, so everyone rushed to the library to print off the tablets whilst the paper chads got a headstart.

This is what I always do for prepping notes for my lectures - I work out all the derivations and example problems I might be interested in doing on pen and paper and then scan them for later, that way I can build up a library of stuff to pick and choose from later and print off whatever sounds good or whatever fits the pace of the class as it goes along.
