When Ellie Wilcock experienced a sudden pain in her abdomen, she assumed that a urinary tract infection (UTI) was to blame. After all, it was something the then 25-year-old had experienced before.
>But the actual cause was a cancer that kills almost 17,000 Brits each year. They just are usually older.
Ellie, now 27, from Peterborough, was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer โ the most serious kind of the disease.
Stages of cancer:
1. denial.
2. bargaining.
3. depression.
4. acceptance.
Bowel cancer, the third most common cancer in the UK, is the same type that killed Dame Deborah James at age 40 in 2022. Analysis suggests deaths are set to rise by 2,500 a year between now and 2040.
Dame Deborah James, nicknamed the 'bowel babe' raised more than ยฃ11.3mn for Cancer Research and is credited for increasing awareness of the disease, which killed her in 2022 aged 40
When Ellies pain got worse, she decided to seek help from her GP.
Tests for a UTI came back negative, but blood tests conducted around the same time showed markers of inflammation.
Such signs can indicate cancer but also other potential diseases and conditions. Scans conducted there detected an unknown mass in her lower abdomen. It turned out to be cancer.

i always assume public health systems under diagnose. in the us they slam you with a bunch of tests for everything, costing you or your insurance a lot but i guess at least they are erring on the side of caution. i have an issue which i think could be cancer. been 5 months since i went to a GP about it, took 2 months to see a specialist. all in all ive had one test done (blood test) and the doctors have spent less than 10 minutes discussing my symptoms or history or anything.

Major cancer types are overdiagnosed rather than underdiagnosed overall. At least this is true in regards to the big five, so it seems.

Young people get cancer too, just at smaller rates than old people. At least this article says that theres been a statistical rise in cancer among young people, rather than just pointing out how THIS woman has cancer, because theres always some person getting cancer somewhere. I myself knew two people in their 20s that died of cancer, and that was at least 10 years ago

Blood test screening every year could maybe prevent that. Also, desifection and face masks are proven to cause cancer.

Just something I noticed. I'm on here a fair bit. 3 posts about young women with cancer with a picture of the women in the OP in the last 3 weeks. Similar kind of post structure. Different kinds of cancer. Only posts like this in the archive I could see in the last year at least. Was wondering if it's some kind of post young women with cancer meme or something

No, its just because young white women in the pic attracts more viewers. This specific woman is irrelevant, a statistical rise in cancer in young people is the only good part (good as in, it tickles my curiosity)

Ok, but the OPs being posted say nothing about a rise in rates of cancer. They're just about individual cases. So posting a young woman to attract more viewers to this individual case is a bit strange, it's like yeah OK, she has cancer, that sucks, it's not really science though. Unless the poster is going to post every single case until we catch on that there's a rise after like a million posts. It would make more sense to post a chart or something showing the rise if that's what it's about

Ok, but the OPs being posted say little about a rise in rates of cancer other than they're usually older. These posts are just about individual cases. The other two posts say nothing about a rise. So posting a young woman to attract more viewers to this individual case is a bit strange, it's like yeah OK, she has cancer, that sucks, it's not really science though.
It would make more sense to post a chart or something showing the rise and talking about the rise if that's what it's about. Instead they're more like "look at this girl with cancer"

>Worldwide, cancer incidence rate has increased to make it the second leading cause of death after cardiovascular disease. Environmental factors, such as tobacco smoking, urbanization and its associated pollution and changing diet patterns together with increased wealth associated with better medical services and extended postreproductive life span, have been considered responsible for this phenomenon.
