Does walking speed really correlate with IQ?

The best fit line shows correlation, but maybe I have the highest IQ of anyone on Earth, and I walk around 1.5 m/s, which looks like average to me. Maybe being busy correlates with walking faster and high IQ too, but being busy would be obviously causal toward walking more quickly in a way that correlation between walking speed and IQ isn't.
>people with more stuff to do walk faster?
Anonymous at Mon, 8 Apr 2024 03:56:51 UTC No. 16117953
I can absolutely guarantee you the average walking speed is not 3.5 miles per hour.
Maybe 2.2 miles per hour.
Not 1.5m/s.
Data source is suspect.

Theory:
The people who walk faster are the type of people to put more effort in
They also put more effort into their IQ tests

Dumb people are more often
>fat
>poor
Than the clever people who tend to be more
>fit
>rich
Now ofc, there is this endless debate about the correlation VS causality. Were fat clever children so high iq they saw their own weakness and went to count calories until they were no longer fat? Or is being fat so bad you dont get enough blood into your brain which then arthopies to the point you no longer have ability to count calories anymore?
So walking speed is just another joke arbitrary measurement of human VS subhuman in a sense. Almost everything health related correlated with income and with iq and with skin tone...

they eat vegetables so they cannot really ever run out of food, they are capable of casually travelling hundreds of kilometers so they can dodge any serious ecological catastrophies, humans eliminated their natural predators (wolves) and they breed a lot with ease. It is fair to assume these will survive longer than humans unless we will go full hitler and shoot them all dead for political reasons.

While it's definitely there, that's a very mild correlation so if any of you are slow walkers I wouldn't worry about it.

The best fit line has a p < 0.001. Do you even know how significant that is? More stats should be taught in schools.

they stretched the x axis on those graphs to make the fits look reasonable, all you have to do to show how ridiculous the fits are is to squish that pic back to a normal scaling

There's apparently a correlation between faster walking speed and health in general. Maybe it's as simple as a relation between a healthy body and an effective mind. Wouldn't surprise me.
