Can someone explain Mohr's Circle to me like I'm a retard? What is it even representing? An infinitesimal particle or what? I also don't get the rotation and stress changing thing. Is it just different combinations of the same stress schema?

it's been a while but iirc every point in a material can be represented with a stress that only has a normal component (i.e. pure tension or compression) and no shear stress. it is dependent on the chosen coordinate system though, and usually that coordinate system is not the same as the general coordinate system you happen to be using (i.e. that coordinate system does not align to an arbitrarily chosen frame of reference based on the dimensions and form of the object). so there's this mohr shit.
