Most university admin are just using DEI (or some synonym) as an excuse to redirect all budget items towards their own salaries. There are a few DEI believers but it's mostly just the path of 1% more greed each month, no department is immune to "budget cuts", eventually even the sports will succumb.
Ask your friends and family if anybody can give you helpful advice about attending a non-local college and make sure to let them know what's happening.
