What are some good books/texts/websites/etc. one can look through to self-study biotechnology and bioinformatics? I wanna do cool DIY shit w/ bacteria and plants, maybe animals

You'd need a very good lab to do those tho. You can order your custom gene as plasmids online. But to do the transfusion and maintain the bacteria, you'd need sterile environment, incubator, freezer along with standard lab equipments like pipette, 96 well plates. Not exactly DIY unless you've loads of money. Even then you might need some level of government compliance on the GMO, H&S. I fucking hate this field.
