I like to think of the pyramids as a giant "we were here" sign. Maybe they were so advanced and they knew they were about to be destroyed by an asteroid or whatever, so they constructed this masterpiece so that people thousands of years later would see it. They expressed their knowledge of the world through the geometry and alignment of the structure.
