I have a scientific mystery for you. I was digging a hole in my garden to pass the time, and finding all the usual stuff like old bottles and broken pottery from the 18th century. And then right at the bottom, deeper than all the other stuff, was a blue plastic bag. Now unless this bag is over 100 years old which I doubt, then how the heck did it get deep underground and below the old bottles? My house was built in 1920

Have you considered the possibility that someone else could have buried it in the last 50-60 years?

Why would they do that though?

Two things, one, the ground is not static, it is not highly dynamic but stuff does move, think about how the tire in a lake or river rises / gets buried, the 2nd thing is more likely but probably thru the Eco cycle it may have been deposited by an animal that what then ether eaten, or had to escape for just moved on.

So you're saying an animal ate the bag, and was then buried with the bag inside it (perhaps a beloved pet dog who died from eating a plastic bag) and that's how it got down there? I suppose that makes sense

Just saying that it is one possibility.

Natural processes: Natural processes like soil erosion, sedimentation, or even animal activity could have gradually deposited the blue plastic bag deeper into the ground over time. This could have happened slowly over many years or even decades, eventually burying it below the older artifacts.
Human activity: It's also possible that human activity, such as landscaping, gardening, or excavation, inadvertently moved the blue plastic bag deeper into the ground over time. This could have occurred through processes like soil displacement, digging, or other forms of disturbance to the area.
Geological activity: Rare geological events like subsidence, landslides, or soil compaction could have caused the blue plastic bag to become buried deeper underground. While less likely, these types of events can sometimes result in the displacement of objects over long periods.
