You can survive just fine with only the bottom layer. Maslow was probably hugged too much as a kid.

Fake and gay. Sex is not a physiological need.

Common criticism is that all levels interact simultaneously and that the definition of needs has a huge cultural component. This criticism does not adequately refute the truth of Maslow's hierarchy within the context our current western society though.

top 3 sound all the same, 4th is a job and almost nobody fullfills the bottom 5th fundamental >reproduction

All organisms exist for the sole purpose of passing on their genes, for they are not immortal.

This is true if you're an animal with no mind to abstract with.

That's... why it's the bottom layer

I am adding the secret sixth layer and calling it the Sigma layer

This is not true with or without a mind. The use of the word "purpose" is incoherent in the absence of a mind.

I think reproduction is vital for the survival of your memories & consciousness desu. How much do we actually know about the kind of information stored in the building blocks of life?

of course you're not actually interested in the topic enough to do that, you're posting because you want to feed you social media attention dopamine addiction

If only there were a science which specifically examines the information encoding and genetic information.

People just make shit up to assign meaning to their lives (I guess Maslow was right about this at least). The fact their model is truly fundamentally wrong is less traumatic to them than thinking about death.

cultures that don't stress the "need" to reproduce tend to die out

One thing I never quite understood about this is how you can cheat at it by "reducing" your needs, i.e. how ascetic monks did not go insane despite not having sex, ever

Are entire tiers of the hierarchy optional?

>reproduction isn't a need. You won't die in a week if you don't have sex, but you'll most certainly be dead, or very close to it, if you don't ingest any water, including through food or drinks, all week.

They don't need to cohere it. They just need to act on it and everyone loves jerking off. Gooners genuinely live with purpose.
