What is the point of science? The more we learn about the universe and our place in it, the more futile human life, all life becomes. What is it that the scientists in all fields are striving for? When all the pieces of the puzzle are in place, what picture will we see? What if it transpires that the purpose of life on earth is to suffer for the sake of a Lovecraftian monster? What will the brave men and women of science say then?
