NASA engineering plebianness, lazer scanners for wallmart, MRI scanners (decent application but also engineering), experimentalist/technician mop-up confirmations of things predicted earlier like grav waves or higgs boson, a picture of a black hole...
so pretty much zero progress has been made in physics in the last 70s years in actually understanding the universe better
