Both are fucking shit, get mathematics for physicists by altland instead and download his solutions manual from library genesis, I worked through LADR, it sucked, took too long, despite being able to solve all the questions, it's just like any other Linear algebra textbook except with the fact that you can answer all questions at the end of every chapter by simply rereading the textbook chapter. The prose sucks though and is just like any other linear algebra book on the market

to add, you should also after working through the linear algebra portion of altland buy and read Linear algebra by Milan, it's just an exposition of linear algebra but from a physicist point of view, it's nice, but there are no problems, just pure theory and self solved example for that which is involved in the usage of physics.

Bro how long are you going to commit to this bit? You've posted variations on this post in like 40 threads over the past week.

I don't like either. Honestly, your best bet is probably to use 2 different books at different levels of difficulty.
The way we did it at my university was that we used Lay's Linear Algebra and it's Applications for the "applied linear algebra" required course for everyone to take the third semester (usually at the same time as multivariable calculus) and then Hoffman and Kunze for the "abstract linear algebra" elective course you'd take either junior of senior undergrad. H&K is a similar level of difficulty to Axler's LADR but in my opinion is a better book in just about every way and is much more comprehensive.

Done Wrong is honestly the better book. It's much more useful about getting to the nitty gritty applications of matrices and how to actually do useful things with them and program a computer to take advantage of this and solve practical problems, which is something you really want to know before going into a high in the sky 'pure' book.
As >>16188829 says, Hoffman and Kunze is the better 'second' book.
