Why do males have an Y? Is Y symbolic of something?

The Y isn't a symbol, it's just what the chromosome happens to look like. Males still have one X chromosome and has the same genes as females. However, although the Y chromosome has fewer genes than the X, it also has some unique genes. Nature simply evolved this as a method of determining the sex of a morph and it's morphogenesis, which results in sexual dimorphism (which is more apparent in some species than others, think birds, humans for example). Now, it doesn't have to be this way, in fact some species have very interesting genetic regulators that determine morphogenesis. Some species have more than 3 morphs, such as ants which can have upwards of 5 or more. This is just limited to their morphology and not their sex. You see, it's only efficient to have 2 sexes in order to achieve a good enough genetic diversity and reshuffling of genetic content. Yet, these genes that regulate morphogenesis work similarly to those that regulate sex.

It all starts with water and how it's a very poor conductor. Although water is a self ionizing substance, it's not enough. However, if you add ions to the water, let's say calcium and potassium, now we have something to work with. So that's great, the water can now conduct an electric current, but it's chaotic. That's where neurons come into the picture. They are nature's way of giving order to a tiny space in a universe dominated by entropy. Ions are transferred into and out of the neuron, which creates an electric potential. This potential moves though the cell body and its axons. This is what you are probably referring to. Maybe your question is deeper though. How does that create consciousness?

Well at least you made an observation. What purpose do you feel a penis shaped chromosome lends itself to?

more like, see Jesus with your own eyes than refer to the Bible. x-ray crystalographers (and now cryogenic electron microscopy) have been taking pictures of cytokines for many years. But if that isn't good enough for you, then nothing will be.
