In the sense it is as Earth is in the very center of the observable Universe. Its not like we will ever see much more of the Universe anyway, might as well make it the center.

Imagine yourself in a huge, pitch black, deep underground cave. You have a small flashlight. You shine it in every direction around you, and everywhere you look, the flashlight fades into darkness around 50 feet away or so.
Do you conclude that the cave has a radius of 50 feet?
Or do you conclude that the cave is larger than your flashlight's ability to illuminate?

From our POV the sun doesn't move in an orbital manner around us us. If you assume earth is at the center of the universe then you'll have nonsensical planetary movements and find it very difficult to predictive models.
