How can something as simple as an apple falling from a tree cause a human to discover something as complex as Newton's work?!

Everyone knew what gravity was but newtons insight was formulating its principles in a precise mathematical framework that allowed people to make predictions. Most normies will never use his math though so the story that somehow he was the first person(or even organism) to notice that things fall down will just stick around l guess.
