🧵 iv'e been seeing a lot of brain size posts,

Roteman No. 16198708

but does brain size actually correlate to intellegence?

neanderthals had larger brains than humans and they weren't smarter than humans

i want concrete evidence linking the two and some research papers i can go through

i also want proof to dispute the above and research papers for that too

image on right is literally me

has anyone ever seen a neanderthal brain?

based on skull size and shpe we made an educated guess

Think it has to do with neuron density over size. Neanderthals may have been big brained but humans just had more raw compute. Think about it like a i5 processor over an i7 processor. They both are the same size, one just has more “ooomph” to it.

Intelligence correlates with brain surface area, not volume. The convolutions of the brain are an evolutionary advantage.

It was more like i5 + RTX 4070 for the neanderthal, and i7 alone for sapiens.

so we are all in agreement that size dosent matter, its the use of it that matters

But what if they had better potential to become smart ?
Also are you sure theres no way Homo N. was not actually smarter than Homo S. , on average or in certain ways ? Aparently Homo S. is just a huge faggot teaming up to run up on a nigga after invading their living space.

brain size does correlate with intelligence but it's only within groups, women have much smaller brains and they are much worse at doing many things because of this but most people wouldn't call them significantly dumber because they cant catch balls

lots of things involving brain activity aren't things we normally associate with the idea of "intelligence" even if they do correlate strongly

No, the Neanderthals did outmatch us in raw compute but most of that was devoted to a larger occipital lobe, whereas we had a more developed prefrontal cortex, which enabled a greater social aptitude, which proved to be more useful than better navigation.

neanderthals are a different species which isnt relevant, its likely that they had a larger brain which was also less developed, they were very stocky and heavier than humans.

within a given population for example male Japanese coders, there seems to be a connection between brain size and cognitive ability

There have been many studies on this

If you look very closely at the diagram posted by OP you can see Neanderthals had a larger brain which was depicted as being less wrinkly

That’s a popular theory the Neanderthals simply had a very large head with a brain that was less developed

Brain size correlates with visuospatial IQ, but not with verbal IQ.

>For example, they were shown a hammer, an axe, a log and a saw, and asked which of these did not belong. The typical Uzbek answer was that they all belonged together because they are all needed to make firewood. People who are able to think in terms of categorical relationships identify the log as the answer because the other three are tools (an abstract concept).

And, what is it good for?

And what follows isn't useful either: you need to know if there are camels in Berlin in order to know if there are camels in Germany. Going the other way round is completely useless.

Also, is that how it happened? I can imagine the thought process:
>Lead has no known function in the body.
>we found it in a protein
>lead has no function in the body
>but we found it, it is in these proteins!
>WE ARE ALL FUCKUNG POISONED!!!

Based on modern research Homo Sapiens and Homo Neanderthalensis were behaviourally the same. We know now that everything Homo Sapiens did, Homo Neanderthalensis did too. We've also known that they interbred for a while now, and it's likely that during that time, they didn't even recognise each other as distinct species. It's impossible to say why Homo Neanderthalensis went extinct but it's likely something to do with their physiology like higher calorie requirements than Homo Sapiens.

It correlates to intelligence but is not the ultimate deciding factor, neuron density and the size of individual brain regions of like also play a role. You can see in that image that the Neanderthal’s brain is a different shape, so something like the frontal lobe for example might be smaller in Neanderthals despite overall brain volume being higher

Neanderthals were more intelligent. The irony is that homo sapien was relatively retarded so took more risks. Those risks sometimes came with larger rewards so became more successful thank the risk-averse neanderthal.

Modern day neanderthal is found doing risk analysis for insurance companies. They understand it.
