Why aren't bacteriophage viruses used in medicine to treat bacterial infections? They are natural enemies of bacteria

There has been some research, but it seems that due to the general effectiveness of antibiotics, research into phages as treatment has been limited.

Also, phages are highly specific to certain bacterial strains, making their application complex.

They won't kill every bacteria or else it too will die.

Yeah, people travel from all over the world to do it. Usually after local medicine fails to cure them. A while ago it was all over Australian news as there was a panic that antibiotics were becoming completely ineffective.

In a surprise to noone, big western pharma corps aren't interested in it as it isn't as lucrative as patentable antibiotics.

They are in exsoviet countries, since the USSR couldn't get into antibiotics so used them as an alternative. I think you can go to Georgia and get it if you have an antibiotic resistant bacterial infection.

Phage therapy is very expensive, its like $6,000 for a treatment course. Antibiotics are much cheaper, bacteriophages are mostly good for specific resistant bacteria.

Most bacterial and parasite systems use CHITIN to protect themselves. If you use Chitinase to dissolve that chitin, you dissolve the protective surfaces that these parasites use to evade digestion and immune system reactions.

Unfortunately, high amounts of Chitinase in a body induces a "seafood allergy". As the immune system does not deal with the byproducts of dissolved chitin in the system as a fish would or an insect would.
