>supposedly over one BILLION lightyears long
>supposedly one BILLION lightyears away
How are you even supposed to make these measurements? I find such statistics to be quite hard to believe.

Using a galaxy redshift survey called SDSS.

The universe does not require your belief.

It does actually. Without consciousness to observe it The Universe can't exist.

Have you heard of
THE ONION OF TIME?
Imagine your world, around it is a 1 light second radius sphere, around that is another 2 light second radius sphere, around that is a 3 light second radius sphere and so on.
Now imagine you had a spaceship with a BLINK DRIVE (instant teleportation to any point in the universe). What you see, before teleportation will be WRONG TEMPORAL IMAGES. As the radiuses increase in this onion viewport zone everything you saw is in the wrong visual location. Let's go with your solar system orbiting the outer edge of the Milky Way galaxy. If you were 6 light years away, the images would be six years out of date. Literally every deep space astronomical object, as seen from Earth, is years to centuries to millions of years WRONG. If you teleported to any viewed location, nothing would be where you witnessed it from Earth.
That's THE ONION OF TIME. The realization that everything you witness at astronomical distances is INCREASINGLY WRONG in location the farther away it is. To compress the concept, imagine you're in a High School Gym and from your eyes, moving outwards, every 12 inches away from you, was off in accuracy by 1 second, 24 inches away, 2 seconds, 36 inches away, 3 seconds and so on...
You're playing basketball, the basketball hoop is stationary as are the bleachers, the floor, unchanging to your vision, but the hoop is 30 feet away (or 30 seconds away). As other players near you, they appear to slow down to your speed, farther away they edge into blurs, your scaled down ONION OF TIME means that if some audience member flung a drink cup at you from the bleachers it would be invisible until it almost hits you and you wouldn't see the person taking the throwing action until 15 seconds afterwards it was thrown.
Astronomical maps are WRONG in galactic scales for every light years distance predicted. Author's note: A BLINK DRIVE utilizes going back in time to arrive at the destination instantly irregardless of distance traveled.
