My parents were fairly intellectual, and my grandpa was a mechanical engineer. I was curious about the natural world and they fed me illustrated science books/encyclopedias. My mom was a geologist, so she would take me around to show me landscapes and the rocks in them, explaining to me the basic concepts.
By pure chance, my cousin was the best PhD student in his years, and he went on to work at CERN, so whatever convo I wished to have about that stuff, he was also ready to explain.
By the time I was 10 or so, I already knew and understood much more than the average adult on the street.
