I have seen their calls for new recruits. I feel tempted as its useful to be part of a mutual support network, but the auditing process scares me, it seems like its just interrogation to blackmail you. They also ask for a lot of money, can they help you at least make more money, or is it one of these cults where only the top benefits and every other member gets to help them a lot more than he will ever be helped?

Like all cults, you're only worth what you bring in.

>you're only worth what you bring in.
This phrase makes no sense.

I remember thinking, in childhood, that scientology was the official/formal term for atheism

Masons require of you to be a person of some prestige, married and with good standing in society. They were said to be much bigger before the invention of social security, insurance and gibs, most of what they did for their members was to take care of their families if they died.

One of my friends is a member and he's not married, is an IT dork, and apparently they don't check for criminal records. They may have had high standards once upon a time but today it appears they'll take any young person who shows an interest.

Why wouldn't they hire criminals? They're the sort they can use to pull dirty tricks on others.

Its a scam, why would you want to join?

None of that is true. The only requirement is that you believe in a higher power.

how are they testing for that. Checking that you go to regular religious services?

Just a sincere statement of belief. You don't necessarily have to be religious, just have a belief in a higher power.
