🧵 Not another climate change thread

Anonymous No. 16227093

In Western Europe it has been raining almost every day for about a year now with mild temperatures in all seasons. According to The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute the main cause (disregarding El Niño) of this recent development (there were four clearly distinct seasons a few decades ago) is warming of the Atlantic Ocean.

Now this development and the official narrative of The Science has an obvious catch: the consequences of warming are not straightforward, not predictable, not the same for all parts of the world and not necessarily a problem for every region. On top of that it's remarkable that The Netherlands has also experienced a periods of drought a few years ago which was attributed to warming as well by the same institute.

So long story short: doesn't the main problem with warming boil down to politicians not being able to anticipate the unpredictable consequences and therefore prefer a sweeping approach which itself may be more disruptive for people's living conditions than figuring out what's appropriate on a local scale?

No. You ran out of butter because of a minor issue in the supply chain. Multiple times. Your quality of life would be absolutely fucked if any mid to large sized country suffered from the effects of climate change.

So your question is whether politicians should attempt to remediate locally, instead of prevent globally?
