🧵 Freeman Dyson says global warming is fake

Anonymous No. 16236727

Renown astrophsycist & mathematician Freeman Dyson was certain that global warming is fake. Dyson's resumé is impeccable, a professor at The Institute for Advanced Study, noteworthy and important contributions to number theory, quantum mechanics, nuclear power as well as climate science, which he studied and contributed to for half a century

Here's a video of him saying global warming is fake
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mmI6DorL_Y

Here he is saying its fake in writing
https://www.edge.org/conversation/heretical-thoughts-about-science-and-society
>My first heresy says that all the fuss about global warming is grossly exaggerated. Here I am opposing the holy brotherhood of climate model experts and the crowd of deluded citizens who believe the numbers predicted by the computer models. Of course, they say, I have no degree in meteorology and I am therefore not qualified to speak. But I have studied the climate models and I know what they can do. The models solve the equations of fluid dynamics, and they do a very good job of describing the fluid motions of the atmosphere and the oceans. They do a very poor job of describing the clouds, the dust, the chemistry and the biology of fields and farms and forests. They do not begin to describe the real world that we live in. The real world is muddy and messy and full of things that we do not yet understand. It is much easier for a scientist to sit in an air-conditioned building and run computer models, than to put on winter clothes and measure what is really happening outside in the swamps and the clouds. That is why the climate model experts end up believing their own models.

>"my objections to the global warming propaganda are not so much over the technical facts, about which I do not know much, but it's rather against the way those people behave and the kind of intolerance to criticism that a lot of them have."

Looks like not only was he ignorant about the actual processes of global warming, he was also ignorant about the ecosystems and how they respond to CO2, and he had a problem with the rhetoric, that's a fair one.

The next is cost, which is also bullshit because nuclear being expensive is 100% regulatory and policy issues, nothing else. It's just a business and there are plenty of money involved in it. it's the logic of the midwits, everything has to follow consensus because they have nothing else to rely on, except for consensus. they can't never imagine using their own brain to understand, or to form their thinkings and conclusion. this is because they're midwits. they are smart enough to read and copy from the other people in their field, but not smart enough to do anything else. this is the reason why they're the most ardant defender of the bullshit in science nowaday, because with the system to parasite on, they wouldn't know to do anything else to survive.

In the 70s & 80s the field was known as atmospheric physics, it was much more intellectually rigorous. About 30 years ago it was branched off from physics into climate science and dumbed down in order to allow environmental activists who were too dumb to learn calculus to participate. Thats probably why they still use the same old Fortran code, because the people around today are too ignorant of physics and math to develop their own software.

Anonymous No. 16262416

>>16236727
His objection is only to climate models based on fluid dynamics. The majority of arguments to convince people about climate change has seldom been about fluid dynamical models, but about past events. Scientists have used ice cores, ocean cores, tree rings, coral "cores", and prob a bunch of other stuff too to show that that since the industrial revolution, the earths ave temp has been warming about 10x faster than the end of an Ice age.

Lol, you don't use fluid dynamical models to prove climate change. You use em as a guess on how it's going to affect the future. We already see the effects of climate change today, so such models are extrapolations of these current effects. We already know the current and past rates at which the earth is warming, but we want to predict what temps they might be. We know ocean levels are obviously gonna rise from melting ice, but by how much and when? A question like this depends on the temp obviously and when that temp hits. This leads to a question like who and how many people are going to be displaced? How many will die indirectly? Models lead to other models which lead to other models to answer diff questions. We already know the trend exists and what the general effects are gonna be; models give us an educated guess an what specific numbers to expect.

As for Dyson, did he ever even say something like "climate change is a hoax"? Or was he one of those people who were like "well, idk much but I'd like more info. I like being contrarian too cause I'm a scientist". Dyson helped show that Feynman's QED ideas had merit even when a shit ton of smart physicists were skeptical. Idk, does anyone know if he really had Nobel disease, or was just trying to play devils advocate like a decent scientist should?
