The human psyche must exist in a state where every aspect of his surroundings he must only be able to measure against himself. A definite picture of something must be measured in the mind on a basis of scales. I must know how big a boulder is, I must know how big a pebble is if I cannot know the size of something in relation to myself, then I don't understand its' size. This is true for meter sticks. If I say I do when I couldn't then I'm only guessing.
This enters the comparative trouble with the psyche. We only compare others to ourselves. Thus, everything you love and hate, desire and fear, think and didn't remember until now we look at the person in front of us, and then we look at ourselves. That's all we can do. That's all we can ever do. Ever. Woe is me. Woe are we. Alone but one, ones, one at a time. Tearful tragedy, for sure.

This invites' Jungs' concept of the shadow. The more alike to someone we are, who we have measured quite well, the more nuances of the other persons' personality are pronounced. Anything pronounced, will by the mind, be guessed at as either more or less. It might even be obvious, but the differences in the personalities will manifest in a very pronounced way, thuus drawing scrutiny and thus personal judgement. One on one in the mind.
This person is very much like you, so you disregard, and take for granted your similarities. Thus honing your attention more and more about your differences.
Don't think that this is a problem to solve. This is the mind. This is what we are.
