🧵 Wich one do you use for studying?

Anonymous No. 16241331

I wanted to buy an e-reader for university. I'd like one because screen light pisses me off and i would get less distracted by a digital book than by a pc. I would use it to read uni books, and take some notes over them. I would probably prefer writing full notes over my notebooks, so this feature is not that important to me. I've seen online many different products, like elipsa 2e, fujitsu quaderno a4, all the kobo ones and the onyx, but i really don't know wich one to pick because online rewiews aren't that good.

Overall i need a wide screen (like a4 size), good battery, the possibility to take notes over books and to download or tranfer libgen's books . 500 bucks budget limit.

Some of you may say stuff like ask on /adv/. I know i should ask there, but i wanted the opinion of people doing stuff similiar to mine. ty.

I use Quaderno for work (reading academic papers, writing notes and text drafts).
Recommended to fellow colleagues over this year.
Quaderno only has a one problem - no backlight. Oh and use japan rabbit to buy one directly from Fujitsu.

Alternatively buy Chinese mooink.

For non-work literature - kindle paperwhite.

Typing while commuting, might post more later.

Thank you for the response!
-With non work literature you mean novels and this kind of stuff or university books?
-If you have time can you please give me a review of the quaderno?
Thank you for your time.

Sure here you go, some of my copypasta

"in addition to note-taking and comfortable reading, e-writer doubles as a drawing boards during tech. meetings.

Option 1 – https://supernote.eu/ - they have new A5 writer, and also plan to release A4 in the future, although with no release date.
Can be bought directly from manufacturer.

Option 2 – https://remarkable.com/ - good, but leans towards subscriptions and services. No A4 model.
Can be bought directly from manufacturer.

Option 3 [new] – https://readmoo.com/mooink-series/mooink-pro2c-13 - technical successor (or a copy) of Japanese Fujuítsu writer, same model but with better internal parameters. Chinese interface, English localisation may come later as a software update.
Can be bought directly from manufacturer.

Option 4 - Japanese option (that I use)
https://fmv.fccl.fujitsu.com/shop/pid/pickup-peripheral/quaderno#item – Japanese website for Fujitsu product
https://japanrabbit.com/ – since Fujitsu does not currently ship outside Japan and they do not have an official international distributor for Quaderno product, I have used a reliable buyer/sender service of Japanese goods."
Google will usually output a lot of scam websites on this model and fraudulent stores that sell overpriced and broken products
For the future reference - https://ewritable.com/ – reviews of e-readers and e-ink tablets with a decent comparison table.

If someone doxes me based on text, I don’t give a £&@?. I am done with this nonsensical world.

Janny, I agree that OP’s question is not exactly sci, but only because it falls onto crossroads of sci/tech/adv.
Besides, ability to conduct own work fast and with good quality is paramount to sci.

Hey OP - I’m well out of school so YMMV when it comes to what device will do it for you, but I really enjoy the Supernote A5X. Not quite A4 sized, but I regularly use it to read and mark up technical PDFs/textbooks without issues, as well as a replacement for paper when I do math.

What I particularly enjoy about it is the Digest feature (https://support.supernote.com/en_US/Tools-Features/1735114-digest). When I finish a book, I can quickly and easily export all of my snippets and annotations into one PDF that I pull on to my laptop to further process.

What sets Supernote apart from Boox is how well-done the core system of apps is - Boox devices are just Android tablets, it’s up to you to get the apps you need and to try and stitch together a workflow, whereas the Supernote devs have created a much more coherent suite to work with when it comes to reading/writing/highlighting/annotating - a youtube video would do you better than my trying to describe it better than writing. Also, if you care, it’s also worth saying that this thing doesn’t phone home to the chinks unless you’re doing an OS update.

They don’t currently sell the A5X because they’re in the works of releasing updated hardware, but you can find one on ebay for probably $300-400.

It's pretty good man. Has way more functionality than any of the other devices mentioned here; it is effectively just an e-ink android tablet with good built-in notes-taking, reading all for the low low price of 3.500 yuan.
