Anonymous No. 16242516

>enter STEM college at the age of 20 ( 2 years late)

>Start college late due to a prison sentence of 6 months for online theft(found about on a website)

>Entering one of the best STEM institutes(passing rigorous entrance exam) in my country but don't know how the society will accept me.

Any tips anons ?

The sentence was lenient enough to let me get books and some study material. Any tips anons ? Will I have problem working abroad after this ?

You need a lawyer.

I am Already out anon. For context - the crime wasn't an horrendous one, I just found a bug on website and exploited it for a while before getting caught.

I was 17.5 years old when I did it. And almost 19 when got caught. All of this happened while preparing for engineering college entrance exam so it got messed up

Your fellow students won't care. Most teachers won't care but a few might give you a hard time about starting late. Jobs it depends on the country and the specifics of the crime, it's less of an issue now than it used to be but some companies still won't consider employing anyone convicted for theft.

The only thing on visas I know for sure is the US can deny them if you were released from prison less than five years prior to your visa application. That doesn't always apply and I don't think it would in your case (it's only for serious crimes). I am not a lawyer though.

Hr usually pulls criminal records upon hiring. Shit is staining unless you can request it to be pulled by expungement with a lawyer.
But i think your crime will likely be forgiven for how white collar it is and young you are. Did you neet 2 year doing phishing or are you working?
Anyway what is your major gonna be? Don't get a meme degree with meme professor and meme classes.

Computer engineering (not computer science, they are a little bit different) with minors in Physics

Tbh I am not worried about jobs, My college is pretty reputed and great alumini network(which can help). A LOOTT of people from my college join IVYs for masters, FAANG/MAANG, rubrik and all top tech companies hired from here.
I have already started internships in freshman year (my colleges got contacts in few companies)
More concerned about VISA(in USA,Europe), can it be a problem ?

That is a lawyers problem, depends on how well connected the countries are.

Not really, Computer science is more theoretical focus unlike computer engineering which includes classes like electronics etc
