Is there an advantage to much of human memory being so fleeting?
Is there a disadvantage of having much better memory?

The human system has limited time, energy and resources. Therefore it needs to choose how to spend time, energy and resources. It tends to choose in a way that is most efficient to reach its goals. The system will therefore optimize how much memory it retains: more memory than is needed to reach its goals is too expensive and distracting. Too little memory is a competitive disadvantage. Natural selection may have optimized our memory in such a way.

Memory is optional if you can customize yourself; technically, it is a weakness because you fear that you will be controlled by your memories. However, they make good nodes that you can use as a personal environment. Technically, memory is in mind environment.

No, that confers no reproductive advantage or disadvantage. It's just a thing.
