Tell me, why don't we just fill with compressed air the spaces from where we extracted natural gases. With the surplus energy from solar plants and other energy sources.

This does work though, there are a few instances of them doing it commercially even a few decades ago before solar and wind got big. The issue is reheating the gas as it expands needs a heat source

Use compressed air to forcefeed the gas turbine plz. It would ramp it pretty quickly when demand rises.

Yes, but you can't build those everywhere, and you can't generate energy everywhere either. It'd be nice to have a storage solution close to the points of generation.
