I wish his statement was correct though. The growing economy bubble created by the internet, combined with the cultural globalisation screws up the global economy and drives people crazy.

The most desired scientific milestone is a one coming from humanitarian/philosophical point. It's a pity that those disciplines are in such state, corrupted and overrun by the agenda. We need to find a way to function without severe polarisation. We need a mediator.

Monotheistic religion, when was invented, played this role. It is not without its own flaws, and we shall not regret that it is almost dead by now. But we need to find something new, and unfortunately this can not be accomplished by technical means.

The biggest milestones are the ones you didn't even know were there until you achieved them.

He's not wrong if we believe the data that suggests the level of technical progress kept stagnating in the past couple decades despite the internet. It changed our lives but, economically speaking, it didn't live up to the hype.

There were even specified procedures where you would get a PDF from a database, see what you wanted to do, go to the "real" copy (paper), scan it, print a copy, write up changes, scan it, email it to drafter, drafter cleans it up, uploads to database, prints out new "real" copy

The fragility of egos in /sci/ is absolutely amazing.
