On the contrary. You have to be good at social networking. Nobody got a Nobel simply by being smart. You have to know the right people.

There are some MDs without PhD who won that prize but very few number. MDs average IQ is something like 115-120. that's not high enough to do anything higher than memorize and repeating things fed to them from others. Nobel Prize requires doing novel and groundbreaking research nobody has ever done before, which probably require 140+ IQ. The MDs simply don't have enough intelligence point to win the prize.
That said, I stil believe the Nobel Prize in Medicine is full of fraudulent research and all the results should be thoroughly examined.
