🗑️ 🧵 Is it possible to pozz the hard sciences?

Anonymous No. 16254846

And how could you know it was unless you scrapped everything and started again from scratch with no presumptions?

>Is it possible to pozz the hard sciences?
Haven't you heard? Everything done by white people is racist

>Physicists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and SUNY Stony Brook recently concluded that two black holes maintained their total surface area after merging. While this research was a welcome confirmation of the theory of general relativity, it failed to address a crucial matter: What were its racial implications?
>That’s a lacuna that an astronomy course at Cornell University aims to prevent. “Black Holes: Race and the Cosmos” poses the question, “Is there a connection between the cosmos and the idea of racial blackness?”
>Anyone familiar with academia’s racial monomania knows the answer: Of course, there is. Though “conventional wisdom,” according to the course description, holds that the “‘black’ in black holes has nothing to do with race,” astronomy professor Nicholas Battaglia and comparative-literature professor Parisa Vaziri know better.
>Battaglia and Vaziri draw on theorists such as Emory University English professor Michelle Wright, whose book, “The Physics of Blackness,” invokes “Newton’s laws of motion and gravity” and “theoretical particle physics” to “subvert racist assumptions about blackness.” The course also studies music by Sun Ra and Outkast to “conjure blackness through cosmological themes.”

Even within the hard sciences there are certain politically sensitive research topics, though not as many as social sciences. And of course politics will dictate certain research directions even if the topic isn't particularly sensitive, for example the drive to improve photovoltaics. But as far as the content and research goes, I don't think it's a huge issue.

Even so, if you read editorials and non-research content in media aimed specifically at researchers (journals or professional magazines), you'll very quickly see that the hard sciences are absolutely not exempt from the insanity. Science departments are very much run by old white men, so of course there's a push to make this not so. And of course it's as heavy-handed and hypocritical as you would expect.

Basically, though the hard science research itself can avoid politics, underlying this research is academia which is all about politics, and at the end of the day the people in the field are the current manifestation of the field.

I think it's all kind of dumb but I don't think it's all ruined or anything.

Reminder that substituting science for The Bible only means that you have no meaningful or consistent beliefs and no character or personality and that what you think can be changed whenever anyone with enough money and influence decides to alter whatever "the science" is.
