What are some things that have seemingly reached the end of their tech tree? The "seemingly" comes from near or far future advancements that we haven't quite seen yet.
For example ball bearings, they might be fully figured out by now with current tech. But the "seemingly" part comes from ball bearings that can be improved with development to material sciences. That's why it's "seemingly", because tech trees will always branch and intertwine infinitely.
Another example, the AR-15, its derivatives, and short stroke developments of it, have basically reached the end of the current small arms service rifle tech tree. The "seemingly" part though, is advancements to cartridge design that the next generation of service rifles will benefit from. (If you mention the SIG M7, that rifle still has yet to see extensive combat use with full power ammunition, it's not as mature as the M4/M855A1)
