Also, this route is a lot more involved than it looks to the layperson.
Running Grignards with good yields is trickier than it looks and handling HBr gas is not something anyone should do.

Purification also looks a bit unpleasant with this route.

junkies don't have high purity standards, and I'd guess drug cooks don't care about quality that much. The dificulty is not in making a chemical, but in good yield and high purity. I made aspirine in a lab, but I wouldn't take it because of all the crap I used to get it that might still be present in low concentrations. Chemistry isn't hard but if you want to make drugs for yourself (and crucially have to ask, e.g. iron law of retards) then it will be cheaper for you to just buy it from the drug dealers directly. If you want to make enough to sell then you could make it much cheaper but then you will just get killed by the gang.

And Grignards are notorious for low yields for basically no reason. Especially when done by people with no synthesis experience, just look at undergrad organic chemistry labs (and they're doing easy Grignards), in a shed.

Drugs are made in China or South America by professionals and smuggled in.
It's cheaper that way.

If you just want the dissociative experience then just buy 3-meo-pcp or any other pcp analog perfectly legal in the US and avaiable on the clear web. Or just drop $5 at dollar tree for DXM.
But I understand this is just about the chemistry theory because it's fun to talk about drug chemistry. I have nothing to contribute to this one, but as stated above a lot of this would get screwed by moisture. I've never even done vacuum distillation so idk.
