On average maybe, but it's not at all a linear relationship. Cantor and Von Braun (iirc) were both devout Christians. I think atheism (or more atheistic forms of agnosticism) are probably most associated with midwits who understand the holes in some of the traditional christian arguments for God but who don't see past the current zeitgeist to the similar holes in purely materialistic and rationalist belief systems. Higher IQ people just have weirder worldviews in general I'd say.

Atheists believe on blind faith that God doesn't exist outside their knowledge. Pretty foolish thing to believe, they all profess themselves so wise, but all just become the biggest fools. Atheism is a religion, they have a blind faith belief and build an entire worldview and belief system and "morality" (typically the foolishness of moral relativism) around it.
At least agnostics (who aren't dogmatic about it) are humble and admit they don't know. But once they take it further and claim therefore others couldn't know, that's no different than the proud foolish atheist, and they'll say something like that as an excuse from looking for God.
Also, when people lump all religion together to make statements like that, they exclude their own religious beliefs like evolutionism (requires blind faith to believe in) or humanism or atheism (again, a blind faith belief about God not existing outside of what they know, and they build an entire worldview around this blind-faith belief), they're lumping false religion with the truth of God's Word. It's not like they're intellectual in any of their debates, they just piss all over the floor and get upset when you don't babysit them.

Not necessarily because some people who are religious have had spiritual experiences suitable to call the existence of the spiritual world "verified" rather than merely "believable".
I think a mark of intelligence is not believing, disbelieving, or neither-believing-nor-disbelieving what you've not verified or falsified properly (or otherwise seen to the heart of the matter about). Lots of people half assedly exercise diligence about a matter and just decide.
