I seriously cannot understand how Americans manage to be so fucking stupid.
t. Came from a third-world shithole to get a PhD, and have to try to teach these subhumans who break down if a question requires 5 seconds of thought.

because some people in uni should have never been there in the first place. They were babied throughout high school by teachers who were pressured to give high grades to get more school funding and by admin teams who treat students like Jill Biden treats Joe Biden after a debate.
They end up either staying 4 years in uni with dread and hate every second or they drop out and pocket the financial aid money.

Yeah, I'm noticing that they expect this to happen in college as well. They refuse to take any accountability for themselves. In a class which has prerequisites, they literally argue that it's unfair to test things that involve those prerequisites.

>argue that it's unfair to test things that involve the prerequisites
Wow, I've never even heard of something that ridiculous. However, I have seen the following:
>students frustrated that lecture material isn't 1-1 with questions on the exams. In other words, they're asking to regurgitate the material as opposed to making a legitimate attempt to learn
>students not attending lectures or walking out of lectures if the material being taught is too hard or they scored poorly on a previous exam and find the lectures to be useless-when in actuality they are good supplements to the book material, assuming the students read the book.
>students who admit openly that they hate what they study
>students openly cheating such as writing theorems on their desk before a exam, or asking for test banks and answers from other students who took the course in semesters prior
>students begging for ridiculous extra credit assignments that are literally elementary school level, such as something akin to a diorama or art project (AND THEN STILL FUCKING IT UP WHEN THE PROFESSOR ALLOWS IT)
and of course
>calling the professor racist

Honestly, if my students cheated, it would be an improvement. They just have these blank, glassy-eyed stares, which convinces me they're all on whatever cocktail of drugs and no longer even resemble actual people.
I'm forced to make the tests regurgitations of lecture material, and even then, the median score is less than 40%.
Also, this is in an almost entirely white area.
Seriously, I'm teaching a 3rd year course, and these "people" still struggle with the concept of plugging in variables.

Man this brings back bad memories. I went to a 4th rate state school for cs and math a couple years ago, I had to yell at the class (I am a tall fat man with an extremely loud voice) to get them to shut the fuck up after they had ignored and talked over the demure chink professor for FIFTEEN FUCKING MINUTES AFTER SHE SAID CLASS WAS STARTING.

It's my understanding that kids don't really get held back anymore, and that even if you do basically no work you can still graduate.

Based on how the comments in this thread sound, you all sound like you've finished undergrad at least 10 years ago. But these claims are basically true: no one gets failed anymore and zoomers are a bit dumb. In college now, if you can't do your intended major you just switch to an easier one or hope to gaslight the prof into giving you a passing grade. Gets kinda scary when you think about America's future leaders.

my only complaint is when every professor wants me to read their gay textbook (which they either cowrote or get kickbacks from). i much prefer when lectures are the main way to learn with a separate exercise book (that doesnt cost a fortune) and/or if the textbook is purely supplemental.

California unis are predominately Asians, Whites, Latin Americans.

I attended UCSD around about 2010. It was overwhelmingly Asian. Something like 80%. I'm sure they'll publish numbers that say it isn't that high, but I know what I saw. I refuse to listen when they tell me not to believe my lying eyes. 80%. At the minimum. 15 to 16% Whites and the rest were "others".
