What's the coolest Science shit you can do without lots of money and education? I want to make new species, and maybe convert myself into fungi with horizontal gene transfer or something idk. Is that possible without expensive equipment?

Tldr self bump I want to inseminate mushrooms with my DNA, is this possible if i do it enough? I know mitochondria was originally a seperate organism. So why not right

the only way to find out is to fuck some mushrooms
but really the answer is no

Why not? I already masturbate too much so I may as well try. It makes sense really. Doubt anyone has tried it to find out.

Sperm are incapable of penetrating the cell wall of fungi cells, which is made of chitin. The head of the sperm is filled with specialized enzymes adapted for animal ova, and wouldn't work on chitin. Even if it was able to inject the haploid chromosomes, the two genomes would be different sizes and incompatible. There are many specialized regulatory regions that are unique to humans that would not work with fungi's cellular machinery. The cell immune system would also probably identify the foreign DNA and produce its own enzymes to degrade it. Such a process would also probably stress the cell, inducing apoptosis and cell death.
Best you could do right now is try to insert very specific genomic sequences using CRISPR or something. We do this with genetically modified yeast to produce insulin and various simple proteins.

Collect plants, observe them, grow them in a pot or even a bowl with a little soil. Witness the birth of a mini ecosystem before your very eyes. See how insects, flying or not, colonize it. Then leave it alone, let nature do its thing. Congratulations, you're more important than 80% of the population, you've helped to preserve biodiversity.

"Science" is the process of discovery, not a set of things or topics.
Just be interested in something and test what happens when you manipulate it in some way, bam, you're doing science!

Is that all fungi? There's probably some unique ones. Can I communicate with them? How would you make a brain compatible fungal implant that transfers it's memorys to other colonies?

Few hundred bucks and you can edit your own genome.

"now showing that certain non-antibiotic pharmaceuticals (ibuprofen, naproxen, gemfibrozil, diclofenac, propranolol, etc.) also have a role in promoting antibiotic resistance through their ability to promote horizontal gene transfer (HGT) of genes responsible for antibiotic resistance" read it on Wikipedia. Will it be useful?

More like you'd have to be mad.
Quite a few "biohackers" made news dropping dead.

It's because they injected themselves isn't it? Im injecting the fungus.

Nta but it does make me wonder what would happen if we implant mitochondria into a fungal cell, or even a plant cell for that matter.

Look into the kinds of shit you can do with high voltage, you will need some tradie knowledge to avoid killing yourself but you can even achieve nuclear fusion if your smart with it.

The objective is doing something "cool", not being mathematically rigorous.
