18th-20th centuries were awesome. You could even be an inventor of something despite being a mathlet. Faraday and this schizo are the best examples

Why the fuck does every single argument about why Tesla was the GOAT just boil down to retards baselessly attributing every invention of the last 150 years to Tesla?

If it was too difficult for you to put together, that was in reply to what you just said, in particular this part:
>his monumental science and engineering contributions
He has no science contributions. His engineering contributions are his inventions (the ones that really were his).

Sure they named the Tesla unit after him because he didn't contribute anything, its not that you are just an ignorant retard at all, its that the science community isn't as good a judges of who contributed to science as you are.

Units are named by engineers for engineers. Real science is done with symbolic quantities, not concrete quantities.

Anonymous No. 16273804

>>16273798
Units are symbolic quantities, retard, they didn't actually concretely divide up tesla's corpse and spread him across reality to engineer all the units of magnetic flux density, he most deeply explored the abstract idea until a physical correlate could be directly associated with the symbolic quantities of energy he helped pioneer, so the scientists named it after him because they recognize they couldn't make their further contributions without depending on the concepts he helped identify, experiment with, and materialize.

Anonymous No. 16273811

>>16273804
No, sorry, but a quantity with an unit attached is very much a concrete one -- no corpses involved.

Anonymous No. 16273816

>>16273811
No, its an abstraction of a thing, not the thing itself, you literally don't know the difference between a map and the territory.

Anonymous No. 16273820

>>16273816
You don't understand anything. An abstract quantity would be something like v, velocity. To concretize is to specify units and set (e.g.) v = x m/s, i.e. the velocity is x meters per second for some real number x. Compare to how a vector can be "concretized" by fixing a basis (by an arbitrary decision) and writing it as a linear combination.

Anonymous No. 16273825

>>16273820
No, getting punched in the face is concrete, an object of x mass traveling x m/s while intersecting with the cross section of space that your face occupies is an abstraction to model you getting punched in the face. Vectors are abstract mathematical values, they are always abstract and linguistic in nature, never concrete, no matter how many abstract units of values you attach to the vector, it is the map, not the territory.

Anonymous No. 16273826

>>16273825
However you prefer to interpret the words "abstract" and "concrete", the fact remains that when you fix a system of units you are no longer doing science but engineering.

Anonymous No. 16273828

So physics and chemists and biologists are all engineers rather than scientists since they all develop and use units of measurement instead of units of science or concrete or whatever you think they use instead?

Anonymous No. 16273835

>>16273828
That's right.
>instead of units of science or concrete or whatever
I am not advocating for units at all (for scientific use, they are fine for engineering).
>whatever you think they use instead
I know what they use for fact. Real scientists prove theorems about the relationships of abstract quantities, engineers inductively generalize empirical observations regarding concrete measurements.

>prove theorems about the relationships of abstract quantities
So you are saying that scientists develop units of measurement by proving the concepts that they represent can be physically measured like Tesla did for magnetic flux density and other magnetism related phenomenon which is why his name is attached to the unit?

Anonymous No. 16273943

>>16273835
>engineers inductively generalize empirical observations regarding concrete measurements.
No, engineers design, build, and operate things, those things can be some combination of abstract and concrete or measured and improvised and the process of building it inherently proves the relationships in the theorems they are operating under are valid or else they wouldn't operate as designed.
