In which field is the research work the coolest? I'd say mathematics is a strong contender
>you don't have to fight for huge grants like in the sciences, you can chill and do what you want without worrying about financial side of your research
>your results are pretty much unquestionable (if you prove something other mathematicians just aknowledge it, not like in philosophy and social sciences for example where your research is basically a bunch of opinions that even your students will disagree with)
but there are drawbacks
>your work is mostly done alone which might be good in some sense but there is not much room for cool collaborations and team projects like in sciences and engineering
>less potential to go on some secret projects for govt/private sector that give you big bucks

Doesn't explain why they're employed at research unis. By this logic give adjuncts tenure kek
