why do companies do this for non-entry level jobs?
how is solving arbitrary tests a good measure of your worth and skills?
my gf who is working on her PhD said she would have done way worse on the same test as she was sitting next to me.
I wonder if there's a study on this and whether it actually works for companies or is it just an HR gimmick to make a recruiter feel less of a loser

This is atypical for my field. Our aptitude tests are extremely basic. I recommend that you study these sorts of things beforehand I guess. Think of it like CS leetcode for interviews.

You know I just took one of these at an interview. The company is so dumb because they pay people based on performance of these little gimmick things. I blew it out of the water obviously, 6 figures starting. But still the dumbest shit in the world because it is so far below the my skill bar. I am thinking about leveraging this for when I try to rank up in their company.

Why do you think the test is why you failed? I've taken those recently and 26/30 is a really good. They make the test hard enough so no one can pass it. They probably either hired some nepo connection or the job listing was fake and there never was a position in the first place.
