Yes I am a venomous mammal with a beak! I lay eggs!

Yes I know that God is not real and evolution is, but how the fuck do you get this thing? It's like someone designed a creature in Spore.

Is it even a mammal? I heard it lays eggs and secretes a milk like substance, but not through nipples.

It's a monotreme chud, read a science textbook.

Best picture I could find on such short notice, but the situation more or less is: proto-mammalian beasts, and their mommy milkers, showed up at the start of the Jurassic some time 208 million years ago, and they all laid leathery eggs, but then there was a split in the tree where a portion of the mammals remained egg-laying monotremes, and another portion adopted the strategy of live-birthing a bunch of little jellybeans. Then, again, at 148 million years where another section of mammals decided to invest further into live-birth and actually have a placenta, womb, etc..

So to answer your question: Monotremes could be thought of as hold-outs to the 'original' early mammalian design. A better follow-up question would maybe be, "why is becoming swollen, fat, and helpless from pregnancy, so overwhelmingly advantageous compared to laying a bunch of eggs?"

Perhaps looking after a clutch of eggs is actually quite difficult, particularly keeping them warm. You're rendered quite immobile

That's actually a pretty good point.

This is the non-sense where they think they can make up a fary tale because they are coming at it from an evolutionary perspective. Evolution of the gaps bs.

that's about as far from a transitional species as you can get, it's just random animal parts thrown together

>Yes I know that God is not—AAAAAAAACK!
Atheism is a mental disease.
Atheists are just spiteful mutants throwing a tantrum at their Creator because they're abject losers:

>The mutant says in his heart, “there is no God”: the rejection of collective religiosity centred around the worship of moral Gods is associated with high mutational load

Atheists ought to be barred from public life altogether, for the good of society.
