๐งต are we going towards logan's run

okay that's kind of an odd title. But now that Musk is creating these underground highways it got me thinking, wouldn't it be beneficial for us to have pods instead of cars? Think about how much effort we're making to make driverless cars with AI, wouldn't it be sort of a shortcut to instead of that, do pods like the movie logan's run
i think logan's run paints an elegant picture of how our future society could look like
cars are a big issue, think of how many starts and stops you have to make for all the pedestrians walking from street to street
i say we go turn to pods
I'd like to live in logans run

nah, cities are already so large that anything pod-like is too inefficient to move the required number of people. Trains and subways are the best system so far.
If you visit a huge and dense city like Tokyo, Hong Kong, or NYC, you'll see what I mean.

Because public transit systems do exist in the US and they're terribly mismanaged but if you point that out, they scream racism and that the real problem is that rural Republicans refuse to live in cities so they can be taxed to pay for mass transit. Cities can't even keep something as simple as a sidewalk in good repair and you expect them to be able to handle operating and maintaining multi-billion dollar transit systems? The current state of the ones we already have is proof enough that the people who run them are too incompetent and corrupt for the systems to be effective.
Point this out and all the public transit fetishers can respond with is "you're racist" and "if we just had even more money". They can't even explain why cities can't keep simple sidewalks in good condition without pointing the finger at "rural Republicans".
Cities are shit because they're filled with shit people. Want your public everything socialist fantasies to come true? Stop re-electing corrupt idiots just because they call you racist if you don't. Start throwing them in prison for corruption and refuse to elect them for their incompetence. But you won't. You'll keep whining that "rural Republicans" are somehow destroying sidewalks and should build you public transit systems that work.

It's bad enough to have to share the road. Public transit is for communists and ethnostates.
