What is the end goal of all of this discrimination in favor of ethnic minorities that happens in STEM in America? Is there actually evidence that promotes anything which benefits these fields?

I would expect this will hurt our nation's competitiveness globally in STEM fields assuming there is no deeper reason. But, surely there is one or else self-destructive actions would not be taken.
