I live in a large city that is widely known for it's strong leftist sentiment and supposed commitment to environmentalism and I have a rooftop garden where I grow a somewhat decent fraction of my own food and every day I go up to my rooftop garden and I can see for miles around me that every other rooftop is completely blank. They're all just tarpaper and HVAC machinery. Theres some smalltime balcony gardening that goes own, mostly just decorative plants, but the rooftops where the best sunlight is are all blank.
Its even legal to grow marijuana here, but the urbanites all choose to pay out the ass at the weed store for the stuff when it can be grow for a few pennies a gram. I don't smoke marijuana because I'm not retarded, but the first year it was legal I decided to grow the 4 plants that were legal and I had no trouble at all producing a couple pounds of material, I handed it out to various acquaintances who shop at the weed store and they all said it was absolutely top shelf stuff, but when I offered to fill them in on how easy and cheap it is to grow and none of them were interested in growing their own even though doing so would end up saving them fairly decent amounts of money for little effort. I guess they'd just rather not get dirt under their fingernails or something.
One of the great things about rooftop gardening in containers is that a lot of the pests you have do deal with in a normal garden can't make up to the top of 4 story building. Another thing thats nice about is it you can monitor your watering more exactly than you can growing in the ground.

that is what i have always said. mutt cities are just asphalt and concrete. Urban areas are as good as desert areas. You need trees. trees shield from harmful sun rays and vaporises water from ground. you don't need to cut tree food what is CO2.

its the conspicuous consumption angle. they don't want to be seen or be known as someone who smoke inexpensive marijuana no matter how good it is. its a common phenomenon in many marketplaces. a lot of people are too timid to form their own opinions and would rather just buy what other people are willing to pay top dollar for.
i used to be a fairly major breeder of marijuana genetics and i have smoked and sold every different type of weed known. the best stuff with the strongest highs are haze and swazi, but because they're tropical varieties they don't form the super tight buds that are in fashion this century. swazi isn't really quite tropical so its a little bit better about bud formation than haze, but even so i could never sell much of it compared to genetics derived from afghan types. and the high from the afghans are boring, they'll just put you to sleep.
of course thats what a lot of people buy marijuana for to begin with, its an excellent sleeping medication. so of course i tried mixing the swazi and haze with afghan genetics to create a stylish afghan looking plant that would sell for a good price while maintaining the quality high of the swazi and haze. took years and those seeds ended up only being popular with a small group of connoisseurs, the seeds that sold the best were always colorful plants with candy flavors, whats known as "girl weed" in the trade.
pic is what marijuana looked like in the west until the late 1980s, most people would laugh at you if you tried to sell that these days, but theres about 0.01% of smokers that would offer to buy everything you had at twice the market rate if you were selling old fashioned tropical types if they were well grown.

Urbanites should stop destroying the environment. They should be taxed heavily until they're willing to make their heat island effect go away and the money from their taxes should all go to subsidize people who actually grow plants, like farmers and people with large yards.
