OpenAI has invented a new AI capable of solving math problems. This means that soon everyone who has spent the last 4 years studying a STEM major will become obsolete. We will be like the artists and the programmers, unable to find a job or profit from our work because the AI is going to do it for free.
There's a blight future ahead of us

how is that universal basic income working for artists and programmers?

you can approximate integrals with polynomials, you can approximate almost everything with polynomials. Once they learn to solve polynomials, all the other math will be taken over by AI

You talk as if we're in the timeline of a solarpunk yogurt commercial, but fail to realize it's a grimdark timeline instead.

OpenAI has not been consistently candid with their promises and demonstrations.
In all likelihood, we won't have dumb schoolchild level AI for another 10 years at least.

I've said for years that teaching students to solve pages upon pages of integrals by hand is a waste of time since anyone in a real job just uses software to do it now.

No contemporaneous calculator will ever solve a math problem that a contemporaneous calculator can't. It's a tautology.

Based.

If its not OpenAI it will be someone else. Solving learning and manipulation of symbolic representation (i.e. language) is 80% of the way to AGI.

They always say shit like that and the results are always grossly underwhelming. I am tired of AI's censored crap that can't even draw fingers the right way, and is completely unable to produce consistent results. That shit is a fucking slot machine, a fucking toy, and they only want investor's money.

is it really necessary to phrase these things in such exaggerated manner? the AI incremental improvements are interesting enough to not be inflated beyond expectation

OpenAI is a has-been. they know nothing. they tried something at a larger scale once, without any idea whether it will work and they got lucky. there's not some genius collection there at work, although OP's fake news story tries to capitalize on that perception, much like retards attribute shit to Einstein.
Anonymous at Mon, 15 Jul 2024 10:51:18 UTC No. 16282235
this kind of AI is at its limits. larger models will be under less pressure to generalize, so they will be dumber. it would be interesting to see if context window size can be decoupled from weight count, though, growing the former and holding on to the latter.
