š§µ How to get that big brain energy like Terence Tao?
Jonathan Macintosh !!p0U1i5L/b8U at Wed, 17 Jul 2024 18:45:40 UTC No. 16285409
Yo senpai, what's good? I'm out here tryna level up my brain game, you feel me? I've been watching these TikToks about Terence Chi-Shen Tao (had to Google that spelling, no cap) and this dude's IQ is straight bussin'. Like, he's got that galaxy brain energy for real.
I'm tryna figure out how to get on his level, you know what I'm sayin'? Is there some kinda cheat code to unlock that 5head potential? I've been hitting the books, but my brain's still giving me the skibidi toilet treatment. Maybe I need to pay the fanum tax on some smart pills or something?
For real though, how do I stop this math brainrot and start solving those Fields Medal problems? I'm out here struggling with differential equations while Tao's probably solving the mysteries of the universe in his sleep. It's got me feeling like a total Peppa Pig, no cap.
So hit me up with some tips, senpai. How do I go from zero to hero in the math game? I'm ready to grind, but I need that secret sauce. Help a brother out before my last two brain cells yeet themselves outta my skull.
Peace out,
Jonathan Macintosh

I mean it's pretty much like height. If you don't have a high IQ yourself, then you won't get far. It's the fixed measure of your neurological function. Focus on practical skills instead if your SAT was middling.

What about the following quote from his website?
>Does one have to be a genius to do mathematics?
>The answer is an emphatic NO. In order to make good and useful contributions to mathematics, one does need to work hard, learn oneās field well, learn other fields and tools, ask questions, talk to other mathematicians, and think about the ābig pictureā. And yes, a reasonable amount of intelligence, patience, and maturity is also required. But one does not need some sort of magic āgenius geneā that spontaneously generates ex nihilo deep insights, unexpected solutions to problems, or other supernatural abilities.

It appears that Terry Tao is suggesting there are diminishing returns to IQ in mathematical achievement. The important question is: what specific strategies should individuals with above-average IQ employ to attain (or surpass) Tao's level of mathematical mastery?

of course there isnt a genius gene, its a highly polygenetic trait, and in order to learn ones field well, you need to have the intellectual hardware to begin with. the fact that average ppl struggle with calculus is evidence that the ceiling is quite low for the average person. high achievers want to believe their success came from effort, even if its as genetic as genius.

That's like having someone born rich saying you can get somewhere if you work hard enough. What Tao is really saying is that even stupid people who work hard enough can contribute something to mathematics, but he's really avoiding saying their contributions will actually be meaningful or famous. The guy took lessons from Paul Erdos and understood numbers by fucking 2 years old. He's just being a humblebrag asshole, and the saying goes that you never age past the day you got famous.
To really learn math? Start with the easy stuff you know, and keep at that until you can progress to the next level naturally and comfortably. The Schaums outlines are probably the best way to learn the early subjects.

You can read as much as you like, but if you do not measure a ball on a string and recognize that it conserves angular energy and contradicts conservation of angular momentum, then you will. Never recognize the truth and will always be stupid.
