Yes. So long as you aren't working out a huge amount or have too much muscle mass. It's on the low end, but not starvation.

I did it to lose some weight but I read that calorie restriction slows aging but I was worried about long term effects.

Based on the Minnesota Starvation Study, you can convert roughly 0.8% of your stored body fat into energy each day before you start breaking down muscle. So figure out your body fat percentage and use it to calculate your mass of body fat, which you will then multiply by 0.008 and 3500 (7700 if using kilograms instead of Freedom Units) to get your maximum calorie deficit.

If you are American and eat less than 3000 kcal or go 3h without snacking, you will immediately die

Intermittent fasting used to be touted as the next great thing to mimic CR. I tried it for a while and had some good effects on body composition. But then the research linking it to cardiovascular events hit. Now I switched over to intermittent isoleucine restriction on a 3,000kcal big-boy diet. Just eating only fruits in the day and early evening, isoleucine foods at night.

Why aren't we all forced to pursue optimum health, or is that only in death?

But is safety the same logic? Is there anything out of order here with being the safest? Safe doesn't mean healthy, it's a matter of intelligence or agility.

Anonymous No. 16293916

No it isn't. Get up to 2000 kcal. You spent 1500 calories on lifting your finger.

Anonymous No. 16293929

1500 calories is like the max. I usually don't even consume 1000 cal/day and probably would throw up trying to eat 2000 cal/day. Mid-30s, BMI 21.5.

It still is hyped when studies show the advantage is just due to calorie deficit. You can be stay on calorie deficit and get same effects as intermittent fasting. Oh and now the hype is also gut microbiome. If you do X that will harm your gut microbiome. Do Y to increase your gut microbiome diversity.

If your healthy baseline weight is near 45kg or 100lbs, this question is way different than if your healthy baseline is 90kg

I've been eating about 1000 kcal for a couple of months now. Works great. Completely sedentary lifestyle, but I've gone from 80 kg to 70 kg so far.

Are you a 10 year old child or a 4'8 woman?
I'm 6'6 and I lose weight rapidly if I eat less than 3000 a day.

I recommend trying 1600-1800 a day. You'll lose a pound a week while being mostly satiated. You will feel like your starving if you eat 1400 every day.

I sometimes don't even eat 1k cal/day and I'm just fine. I've got a fucked pancreas so I barely eat any carbs, that might also play a role.
