🧵 how many types of randomness exist?

Anonymous No. 16298897

why are we not yet evolved enough to study and catalog this?

Anonymous No. 16298903

only one, either it's random or it's not

all of them.

Will you give three examples?

From a practical point of view:
1. Truly random: like the wave function collapse, impossible to know future outcomes.
2. Crypto-graphically secure pseudo random: lack of information about the system (I.E.: a key, a seed) prevents to make predictions of future outcomes.
3. Non secure pseudo random: It is possible to predict future outcomes, and it maybe trivial and fast to do it.

Fun fact: After casinos did a poor implementation of 3, losing lots of money in the process, they decided to skip 2 and went directly for 1 to generate true random numbers.

It’s not surprising, given that our species evolved to get out the rain, seek shelter, navigate the environment, etc., not to calculate odds to the tenth decimal place or ponder the true nature of the universe. We invented geometry long before probability because humans are notoriously retarded when it comes to discerning randomness from nonrandomness. It’s a tricky business: human beings are pattern-recognition and molecular self-replication machines, with Bayesian inference engines between the ears. If you see too many patterns, you’re schizophrenic; if you see too few, you’re retarded. We tend to look for patterns and notice them even when they’re not there to be noticed; see the various religions and superstitions for reference. Most people can’t psychologically accept randomness even if it was there because our brains can’t handle it. The unwashed masses either don’t care or they care just enough to be dangerous, which is why I’m all for the casino industry bilking these faggots for every penny they own. The best of us understand randomness to the extent they understand the underlying mathematical models; even then we can only approximate randomness, both in implementation and understanding thereof.

>If you see too many patterns, you’re schizophrenic
Eh, it's more about how well reasoned the connections are.
