๐งต I can suddenly hear ultrasonic frequencies
Anonymous at Sun, 28 Jul 2024 23:35:43 UTC No. 16301104
All of a sudden I became aware of the ultrasonic noises produced by electronics.
I have been a very big computer user all my life but now it's all falling apart.
Listening to my own computer is like torture and I can no longer do work. The noise gives me extemely loud tinnitus and bad nausea.
I disassembled my computer trying to find the culprit and found that I could actually hear the WiFi router too, and the plugs etc.
How does someone develop this disability? I've not been able to find anything on it. This article discusses people hearing ultrasonics but doesn't talk about people acquiring that ability in their mid 20's.

How do you know it's ultrasound and not audible range sound?

Have you tested this in a formal manner? Anecdote is not evidence.

This is the sound in the room with the WiFi router, the peak is above 20kHz. In ambient conditions the peak is far more pronounced because I had to make noise to take the screencap. To others the router is virtually silent, and it was to me too, but now it's a constant super intense ringing as loud a person talking right next to me. As far as I know above 20kHz is classed as ultrasound.

Better not be. Nobody is my family has it. Don't schizos see imaginary spiders crawling up walls and shit rather than hearing electronics?

I think you're imagining it. Perhaps you have developed tinnitus.

I'm not at peace because I can't use a fucking computer without tinnitus and nausea. Thankfully my phone is silent.

Well as I said, exposure to the sound gives me tinnitus which compounds and makes it incredibly loud.

You could blow it out if you wanted. Get a headset and listen to some high frequency sounds at high volume.

OP, if you wear ear plugs and other noise blocking gear do you still hear it?
what changes it?
if you put an earthed metal screen between you and the device do you still hear it?
