Why can't we just use a huge magnifying glass to boil water and generate electricity? Seems cheaper and more ecological than coal and nuclear

i was thinking about this the other day. you can also just filter the water along the way and get clean water on the other side. so not only does this generate electricity but it also purifies water with sun's energy

I was thinking more like this. You can even melt rock with a medium size lens. imagine a huge lens the size of a football field or something

>purifies water too
good idea. desalinates + generates power

You can, it's just very expensive and not worth your time.

Firstly, the sun doesn't stay in the same spot in the sky.
Secondly, what are you going to do at night?
Retard.

tilt the magnifying glass throughout the day

create a surplus throughout the day and use it at night

Rotating lens

Ever heard of solar? Only works during the day and works just fine. I'm hoping you're trolling because if not I seriously worry for you.

And they suck.
They need 22 times more land to generate the same amount of electricity as a gas fired power station.

What else is empty desert land gonna be used for?

It's all about effective resource utilization.
You have 150 hectares of land.
You can either:
>generate 100MW of power during daylight hours using your faggy solar tower
or
>generate 6,000MW of power 24/7 using nuclear power.
I know which one I'd rather have.

Nuclear power is proven vastly more expensive for the end consumer, due to very high maintenance and building costs. No one wants nuclear waste in their alley. I bet you don't want it too, so someone has to live close to it.
Yes it needs more space, but the costs for parts are much smaller. It's just mirrors, a concrete tower, some heat tubes and the normal clausius rankine cycle.
Everyone who shills nuclear has never attended university

Is that satire? Surely it must be obvious that in regards to moonlight the moon is a reflector, and not a light source.
